Project 1 Final Artist Statement

The character in my Faux Selfie project, Astral the alien, was not initially intended to be similar to me, but I ended up taking many aspects of my own personality when creating these images. I played off of stereotypical things people know about me and some other tropes of girls my age, and combined it with what I thought an alien’s life might be like. In the end, I created a sort of “basic white girl” alien which is kind of oxymoronic to me, as aliens typically represent anything but basic. It was also enjoyable to kind of poke fun at myself in the process. I enjoyed how the character’s personality came together more and more as I came up with additional ideas for images. These pictures were really fun to make, and I enjoyed playing around with color schemes and exploring the features of Photoshop and Illustrator. I only wish I had more time to perfect some of the details, especially on Illustrator. Overall, I really enjoyed the burst of creativity this project gave me and I am pleased with how it came out.
